Family Favorites Menu

Every week I make a menu in which detail what I am planning to serve for supper each night of the week. I started doing this last year as a part of my household binder. I enjoy doing it and it makes my life so much easier.

  1. I don’t have to come up with something to make on the fly after a long day’s work.
  2. I know what to buy at the grocery store.
  3. I only have to travel to the store once a week.
  4. I save money on groceries – only buying what we need.

Sounds great, doesn’t it!? Unfortunately, when I sit down to plan out meals I am often left asking myself or my family, “What do you want to eat this week?”

Solution: We quickly brainstormed a list of meals that we love! Now if I don’t know what to add to the menu, I can glance at our favorites list and pick something from there. Or if I have a particular ingredient, but don’t know what to make I can try to find a suitable match off that list.

By no means is this a summative list – just a start as we are hoping to made additions. In fact while brainstorming ideas we decided that it would be fun to try out a brand spanking new recipe every other week. That will add some variety to our menu and expand our list! Which has also sparked yet another list. (Can you tell I have a love of lists?)

How do you menu plan? Do you have any family favorite recipes that we need to try?

xoxo,

Alexandrea Nicole

Screen shot 2013-01-01 at 9.34.13 PMIt’s time to go grocery shopping for the upcoming week! That means a few of things:

  1. My meals for the upcoming week are planned
  2. I have searched my kitchen cabinets, refrigerator, and freezer to see what I already have.
  3. Items I don’t have but still need have made their way onto my grocery list

I created my grocery list based on the types of products I buy and sections of the grocery store. That makes for the most efficient trip to the grocery store. The hubby and I usually do our grocery shopping together. The experience is way more enjoyable for both of us if we use the list! Jake pushes the cart and keeps track of the list.

You can get your own copy of the grocery list here. It will print with two lists side by side on the page (to conserve paper). I cut apart the two lists and keep them in a clear pocket with my weekly menus in my household binder.

This week both the hubby and I start back up at school after a long and busy break – so for meals this week I wanted to rely on some tried and true recipes and favorites so I don’t have to work too hard fixing meals and can get back in school mode. Sometimes its hard work taking a break! 🙂

Sunday: Mac N’ Cheese

Monday: Sausage with onion and peppers over rice

Tuesday: Hellman’s Chicken with mashed potatoes and a veggie

Wednesday: Spaghetti with garlic bread

Thursday: BLT sandwiches

Friday: Sloppy Joe’s

Saturday: Frozen Pizza

This week is the last week until Christmas Break. Since we will be going home we don’t want to leave too much in the fridge. We based this week’s meals on things we have on hand. Here’s what we are planning to eat for supper this week:

Sunday: Egg Salad Sandwiches

Monday: Spaghetti & Meat Sauce

Tuesday: Hamburgers & Brats

Wednesday: Chicken Quesadillas

Thursday: Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup

Friday: Christmas Dinner – Out

Saturday: Family Christmas #1

We have a weekly grocery budget of $50. After my trip to the store I landed the stuff for supper and to pack dinner for a grand total of $34.09. We are going for enough food to get up through the week with minimal leftovers. We’ll see how it goes!
